Mai
The kitchen.
Mai cooks the miso ramen of her hometown, Sapporo. There’s a vegan miso too, and every month a new bowl, like roasted squash miso with crispy leeks.
Nokishita is a small ramen shop and izakaya at 214 Front Street, Larkhaven. Ramen at lunch, and skewers, small plates, sake and highballs at night.

The bar.
Theo pours the highballs and the sake, by the glass or the carafe, and two beers: a Japanese rice lager on tap, and a local pale ale from the brewery up the street.
Miso ramen comes from Sapporo, in the north of Japan. Ours is Mai’s hometown style: our house miso blend in a pork and chicken broth, with wavy noodles, chashu, sweet corn, bean sprouts, scallion, menma and a pat of butter.
It comes in bowls from a potter here on the coast.
The Sapporo miso is $19. Walk in for it at lunch.

Under the eaves: the spot where you duck in out of the rain.
Our name is on the noren over the door, in white letters on dark indigo. Inside there are 28 seats, 10 of them at the counter.
